The Rotterdam100 Resilient City Edition 2022 was all about developing a more resilient Rotterdam.
With climate change accelerating at worrying pace, frequent mass disruptions caused by a global pandemic, and an increasingly interconnected world, rapid change is becoming the norm. Future generations are growing up in an unpredictable world and will be the ones to face some of society’s biggest challenges.
In the Resilient Cities Network, more than 100 cities scattered across the world, ranging from Christchurch to Addis Ababa to our very own Rotterdam, collaborate to enhance urban resilience and improve the lives of 220m people worldwide.
In this unique edition of the Rotterdam100, we brought together the expertise and skills of Resilient Rotterdam, the Challengers and excellent students to develop concepts for future-proof cities. All the workshops, masterclasses and events revolved entirely around this topic.

Rotterdam is known throughout the world as a city that shows vision, courage, and perseverance. A strong, assertive and resilient city. In order to maintain this level of resilience in the future, we will factor in the opportunities and risks of new developments. Resilience is the new robustness. Therefore, Rotterdam will do all that is within its power over the next few years to enhance the city’s resilience – to make absolutely sure that we are ready for the 21st century.
